Navy Band Cruisers To Perform In LaPorte
LAPORTE — The U.S. Navy’s premier popular music group, the Cruisers, will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, in the LaPorte High School auditorium, 700 F St., LaPorte.
The Cruisers feature eight of the Navy’s most dynamic performers. The group takes its name from the Navy’s versatile, flexible, multi-missioned ship — the cruiser — and the band lives up to its namesake, capable of performing several genres of music: jazz and standards, rhythm and blues, classic rock, adult contemporary and pop and original material.
The Cruisers performed in Oslo in 2004 for the Norwegian Military Tattoo and in Keflavik, Iceland, in 1999 for the Naval Air Station’s Navy Birthday Ball. The Cruisers have also opened for KC and the Sunshine Band and Rick Springfield, and have traveled the nation, representing the Navy at Navy Weeks.
Closer to home, they are in constant demand by the most senior government and military officials. Smaller combinations of the group often perform at the chief of naval operations’ quarters for official receptions and have made appearances at Navy birthday concerts, holiday concerts, national tours and summer concert series performances.
