Palmer Holds On For Mid-Am Title
LEESBURG – Todd Palmer of Fishers posted 66, 67 to claim his second IGA Mid-Amateur Title. Palmer’s 7-under-par tournament finish included ten birdies and he defeated the field by two shots.
“This course fits my game really well, so I always expect to play pretty well here,” Palmer said. “I hit the ball solid both days and my putting was really good.”
Throughout the day, Palmer appeared unwavering, making the turn at 6-under-par for the tournament. His round was nearly perfect, with just one hiccup on the par-3, 11th where he made double bogey.
“I played the chip shot conservatively, just trying to make bogey,” Palmer said. “I looked up at the leaderboard and all of a sudden, I saw my lead shrink to just one shot so I did my best to refocus.”
He bounced back with a tremendous recovery, making three birdies in his next four holes, to get to 7-under-par for the tournament. Heading to 16 he led by two and never relinquished his lead.
This is Palmer’s second Mid-Am win, with a previous win coming in ’07.
“I’m proud of the way I came back from the double,” Palmer said. “It feels great to get another win at the Mid-Am.”
Indianapolis’ Mike Williams, playing a few groups ahead of the leaders, posted a 65 to finish second at 5-under-par for the tournament.
