New Opportunities To Serve Through The Y
WARSAW — The Kosciusko Community YMCA will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 22. The drive will be at the Parkview Warsaw YMCA location on Mariners Drive in the Parkview Center for Healthy Living in the lobby.
Sign up for an appointment at www.redcrossblood.org. Walk-ins will also be accepted.
The Parkview Warsaw YMCA will also offer Lifeguard certification and re-certification. Learn how to save a life while developing the skills and responsibility needed to become a certified lifeguard. Participants must be 15 years old, able to swim 300 yards and able to retrieve a 10 pound brick from nine feet of water. All class dates must be attended to receive certification.
The class schedule is as follows:
- 6-9 p.m. Sept. 11
- 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 12, 19
- 1-4 p.m. Sept. 13, 20
To be re-certified as a lifeguard you must currently be certified and join the class on Sept. 19 and Sept. 20.
Contact the YMCA’s Welcome Center to register by Sept. 10. There is a cost for participation and certification.
Togetherhood is the Y’s signature program for Social Responsibility and invites Y members to lead and participate in volunteer service projects that benefit the community where they live. The next Togetherhood project will partner with Habitat for Humanity in landscaping a Habitat home on Sept. 12.
Participants will be helping to move a shed, redo a rock border and install plants under the leadership of a local landscaper. Register at the Welcome Center to help out from 9 a.m. to noon. Lunch with be provided afterwards.
CPR classes will be offered to the community from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 17 and Nov. 12. If you need CPR certification for a job or you just want to be more prepared to handle an emergency you can sign up for this American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR class. The class will teach adult, child and infant CPR and AED use.
This three-hour class provides a two-year certification. Contact the Welcome Center to register by Sept. 14 or Nov. 9. There is a cost for participation and certification.
