Wawasee Sports Wrap — Aug. 20
SYRACUSE – The Wawasee boys tennis team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday night.
The Warriors welcomed in defending Northern Lakes Conference champion Plymouth and were promptly beaten 5-0. The junior varsity squad suffered a similar fate losing 9-0 to the visiting team.
Wawasee head coach Vince Rhodes summed up his team’s defeat in one phrase, “Welcome to the NLC.”
Wawasee (2-1, 0-1) will travel to Central Noble on Tuesday.
Growing Pains Continue For Volleyball
The Wawasee volleyball team took another rough loss from a familiar foe Thursday night as 11-time defending sectional champion Fairfield rolled into town and left with a 3-0 sweep of the Lady Warriors.
As fans witnessed Tuesday evening at Tippecanoe Valley, an inexperienced Wawasee squad struggled to do itself any favors and was stuck playing catch-up most of the night. As the match continued Wawasee’s play improved but Fairfield was ultimately too much winning 25-14, 25-10 and 25-19.
Following the match Wawasee head coach Chris Cole stated, “Although we did not win I am seeing the team starting to settle down. Each match we are showing improvement and when conference play starts we will be ready to compete.”
Wawasee’s JV squad fell 2-0 to Fairfield, 25-21, 25-16.
No stats were provided from the match.
Wawasee (0-2) will play in the Elwood Invitational this Saturday while the JV team will host an invitational.
Boys Soccer Falls To 0-2
The Wawasee boys soccer team suffered its second loss of the young season. The Warriors traveled to South Bend for a game with Riley and despite a goal off a corner kick from Wawasee’s Lucas Garza, Riley escaped with a 2-1 win.
The JV team left feeling fit to be tied with Riley after playing to a 1-1 draw. Kobe Jones had Wawasee’s goal in that contest. The JV team is now 0-1-1.
Wawasee (0-2) will play at Concord this Saturday.
