Whitko Breezes By Lincoln
SOUTH WHITLEY – It’s going to be a long ride home for Whitko’s opponent Friday night.
The Wildcats welcomed in Cambridge City Lincoln for their season opening football game and were far from gracious hosts. Whitko racked up 443 offensive yards en route to a 49-6 walloping of the visiting Golden Eagles.
Whitko led 20-0 after the first quarter thanks to three rushing scores, two from Garrett Elder and one from Dylan Stump. Elder scored twice more, once in the second and again in the third. The third quarter score was a game-long 69-yard run for the junior signal caller. Dillon Alma and Gavin Powell had the other two Wildcat scores on the night.
Ben Bertsch scored Lincoln’s lone touchdown of the night with a 17-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
Elder was 1-1 passing the ball for 12 yards but obviously did his damage on the ground with a total of 170 rushing yards. Zach Hewitt added 104 as the team’s second leading rusher. Colin Craig led Whitko with four tackles. Chase Bradley added a sack for the Wildcats defense.
Whitko (1-0) will travel to Columbia City (0-1) next Friday for a 7 p.m. kick.
