Corn Lawsuit Could Help Local Farmers
WARSAW — An informational meeting is set for 7:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4, at Creighton’s Cozy Egg Cafe, 4217 W. Old Road 30, Warsaw, to answer questions about how a lawsuit against Swiss company Syngenta could affect local farmers.
Kosciusko County native, Chad M. Miner, has agreed to share important information with anyone who grew corn or had corn grown on their land in 2013 or 2014. According to Miner, all corn growers were harmed by Syngenta’s actions and actual use of Syngenta seed is not required.
Swiss company Syngenta marketed and sold genetically modified seed in the United States before it was officially approved in China. Syngenta represented that the seed would be accepted in all major markets worldwide. China later rejected all U.S. corn for a time because of possible contamination with unapproved seed.
Local farmers may be able to recover an estimated .5 to 70 cents per bushel of corn produced. Local farmers can participate in the lawsuit without cost to them.
Miner is working with Indiana law firm, Wagner Reese LLP and Texas law firm, Watts Guerra LLP, to seek damages for farmers from Syngenta. Miner and Wagner Reese’s Jason Reese will be on hand to answer any questions.
Farmers can call Miner’s office at (574) 268-9911 to make a reservation.
