MILFORD — Each year, around the world, more than one million child fatalities occur from preventable injuries. At TruHorizons, we believe that teaching children to act safely early in life is a foundational principal, and if we can help prevent even one incident, we have been successful.
TruHorizons will be hosting 1,600 fifth-graders from Kosciusko and Elkhart county schools for Safety First, Sept. 9-11. Hands-on sessions will focus on disability awareness, first aid, grain entrapment, water and lawn equipment safety and the importance of safety around electricity.
Students will rotate through the sessions and learn how to properly clean and bandage a wound, how to react if someone is being engulfed in grain, the importance of life jackets and more. They will see a live line demo with sparks flying as they learn how to stay safe around electricity and electrical equipment.
The TruHorizons Safety First days are being held in conjunction with week-long safety activities that include Family Safety Day, Saturday, Sept. 12 at Warsaw Central Park. The community event is being hosted by Kosciusko County REMC, with TruHorizons as a sponsor.
