Triton Sports Wrap – Sept. 1
In nearly every facet, Triton’s boys tennis team were superior to LaVille Tuesday afternoon in Bourbon. The 5-0 win by Triton had four of the five courts win with at least one set at love.
Gavin Eads at No. 1 singles was solid from the outset, beating Dustin Royer 6-0, 6-1 while Mace Eads at No. 2 singles got stronger at 6-1, 6-0 over Cam McDaniel. Rounding out singles play, No. 3 Aaron Stichter beat Leo Martinelli 6-1, 1-6, 10-7.
At No. 1 doubles, Dalton Bailey and Chase Butler took care of Brandon Haisley and Erik Eggebrecht 6-0, 6-2 and at No. 2 doubles, Brenden Damron and Keygan Moiser took down Connor Carlisle and Robert Clingaman 6-0, 6-3.
Triton moves to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference and looks to Wednesday and a trip to face the Plymouth Pilgrims.
Volleyball Earns First HNAC Win
Triton picked up its first-ever win in the HNAC by defeating Knox 25-20, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21 Tuesday night.
Jaela Meister had a big night for the Lady Trojans, racking up 13 kills, seven digs, three aces and a block. Meister had five kills in the first game and added four more big points in the fourth to help put Knox away.
Nicole Sechrist had seven kills and four digs. Hannah Wanemacher added 18 assists and two kills.
The win was the first for Triton since Aug. 20 and the first game wins since that victory against Oregon-Davis. The Lady Trojans move to 2-3 overall and even up at 1-1 in the HNAC.
The JV fell to Knox 25-21, 25-18.
Triton will travel to Culver Thursday evening.
Triton Splits At Mystic Hills
A late Monday score had John Glenn defeated both Triton and Knox in girls golf at Mystic Hills Golf Course in Culver. Glenn shot a 203 to best Triton’s 283 and Knox’s 316.
Leading the way for Triton was Tessa Heaton with her 54, followed by Kayla Kreft at 59, Samantha Edington at 74 and Kate Gardner at 96.
Triton are scheduled to play again Thursday in a quad with North Miami, Caston and Northfield.
Bremen Bests Triton XC
Triton had the top runner in each race Tuesday, but couldn’t put together the right combination to beat Bremen, losing to the Lions 21-42 in the girls race and 30-36 in the boys race.
Bailey Watkins led the way for Triton in the boys tour, winning at 20:13. Not far behind was Shaun Honeycutt, taking fourth at 21:03.
Brenden Ray was ninth at 23:42, Brock Watkins was tenth at 23:57 and Jeremiah Goodrich was 14th at 26:58.
Baylee McIntire led the ladies race with a time of 23:02 to continue her lead as Triton’s ace. Aimee Gladieux was sixth at 26:22, Michaela Best was eighth at 27:07, Abigail Powell was 12th at 28:09 and Alysha May was 15th at 31:25.
LaVille competed but did not field a full boys or girls squad.
Triton will run again Saturday at the Caston Invitational.
