In 1978, William J. Bennett, then secretary of education issued a challenge: “Let’s have a national campaign … every child should obtain a library card — and use it.” Since that time, libraries all over have held library card sign up month each September.
Studies show that children who read perform better in school, and we would like to ensure that every child in this community has access to materials at the Warsaw Community Public Library. For the pre-school age child we offer morning story time programs involving reading and activities with both the child and parent. It is never too early to start the love of reading, and the love of the library. Library card sign-up month isn’t just for children though. We encourage all ages to obtain their library card, and enjoy the vast selections that we offer.
Our library offers so much more than reading. There is free Wi-Fi, meeting places, programming for all ages, writing clubs, book clubs, cooking clubs, crochet and knit clubs, music, movies, games, computers and much more.
The Warsaw Community Library issues free library cards to Wayne Township residents, as they pay taxes directly to support the library. All school age children of the community are also offered free library cards. Residents of other townships in the county can contact us for more information on how to obtain a library card.
Our librarians excel in assisting young and old alike in finding favorite authors, research information, database assistance, and great programming throughout each month. Stop in at any public desk and get a calendar of the month’s activities. In honor of library card sign-up month, WCPL will give away a $25 Amazon gift card to one lucky new library card holder. We will draw a winning name at the beginning of October from all of the people who register for a library card during September.
Over the years here, we have heard many comments from people telling us about their love of the library, and how that love started as a child. That love is now being shared with their children and grandchildren. Stop in and get your library card, and see what all the excitement is about
