Carr Honored As Veteran Of The Month
WARSAW — Teddy Allen Carr was honored as Veteran of the Month at the Tuesday, Sept. 8, Kosciusko County Commissioner’s meeting in Warsaw. Rich Maron was there to present the award to the navy veteran.
Carr, the son of William and Ethel Carr, graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1950. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and completed basic training at the Great Lakes Training Center, Waukegon, Ill.
Upon completion of basic training, Carr was stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station, San Diego, Calif. During his four years of service, he was a Seaman Guard on Gate, a member of the VU3 Squadron in San Ysidro, the Utility Squadron and the Drone Squadron. He also assisted the Leading Chief in Administration.
Carr was discharged from the Navy in March of 1955. Upon his discharge, Carr received the National Defense medal and ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and ribbon and Honorable Discharge button.
In November, 1958, Carr married Pat Barnhart, Claypool, and he has two daughters: Katrina Huffman and Debra Carr. He also has one grandson, who is currently in the U.S. Air Force.
Since discharge, Carr has been a semi-driver for 35 years. Most recently, he retired from Creighton Brothers in 2012. Carr was a volunteer firefighter for eight years for Warsaw Fire Department, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a lifelong member of American Legion Post #49.
