There Was No Violation
MENTONE — Concern came up during the Tuesday, Sept. 8, meeting of the Mentone Town Council pertaining to possible violation of Open Door laws.
According to Steve Key of the Hoosier State Press Association, when Council President Tim Croy contacted Attorney Charles Braun following the August council meeting, he was acting on behalf of the council.
Ink Free News also spoke with Town Clerk Barb Ross, who confirmed that Croy had hired Braun and agreed to pay a $1,000 attorney fee. The council discussed the topic at its September meeting and, while they did not take a formal vote, they agreed during the public meeting to hire Braun and pay the fee.
Braun has been hired to review new policies and procedures for the Mentone Police Department, which has been a topic of discussion for some time. As of Friday, Sept. 11, Ink Free News was unable to get in contact with Town Marshal Jim Eads, for comment. Eads was off at the time.
