Ciriello Is New Kosciusko County Coroner
WARSAW — Former Syracuse Police Chief, Anthony W. Ciriello, will fill a new position as Kosciusko County’s coroner.
Ciriello was voted in Wednesday evening, Sept. 16, during a caucus of Kosciusko County Republican Precinct committeemen, held at the Kosciusko County courthouse.
A total of 51 committeemen were present to hear candidates Ciriello and Tracy Cutler-Wilson introduce themselves and describe their qualifications. Ciriello highlighted his time as deputy coroner, a position he came into in 1993. In 1999, he was hired by the State Coroner’s training board.
“There are 92 coroners in Indiana and approximately 450 deputy coroners,” he said. “All but one were trained by me, and the one that wasn’t was trained alongside me.”
Wilson outlined her medical knowledge and her experience as an administrative assistant in the coroner’s office. She noted she has created spreadsheets for each file dating back to 1973.
Each candidate had three minutes to speak before votes were taken and counted. In the end, Ciriello won.
“I’m overwhelmed,” he said, addressing the committeemen who had just elected him to the position he described earlier as, “a very important job in the state of Indiana that nobody wants.”
Former Kosciusko County Coroner, Michael Wilson, also spoke briefly. “You as a party, I can’t thank you enough for supporting me,” he said.
Michael Wilson resigned from his position as coroner to accept a new position as Warsaw’s fire chief.
