Eads Brothers Earn Titles At HNAC
KNOX – It was a banner day of sorts for the Triton boys tennis team. In the inaugural boys tennis tournament in the newly-formed Hoosier North Athletic Conference, Gavin and Mace Eads each earned won conference titles. The Triton team finished second in the team standings to earmark a big day for the program.
Gavin Eads beat overall No. 1 seed Eian Coad of Knox 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 1 singles final. Mace Eads added a second title for the Trojans when he took care of Knox’s Sequoya Elder, who was the top seed in the No. 2 singles bracket. Both Eads brothers were two-seeds in the respective brackets.
Knox picked up two titles at the hands of Triton. Kooper Broeker beat Aaron Stichter in the No. 3 singles championship 6-1, 6-0. Knox No. 2 doubles pairing of Ethan Cooper and Aaron Fletcher also swept past Triton’s Brenden Damron and Keygan Moiser 6-1, 6-2 in the championship match.
Triton’s Dalton Bailey and Chase Butler wound up third in the No. 1 doubles bracket after getting past LaVille’s Erik Eggebrecht and Brandon Haisley. The team of Kaden Shepherd and Bohan Stayrook of North Judson were champions, beating Knox in the No. 1 doubles final.
Knox had the last laugh, perhaps a gasp, after scoring 48 points to edge Triton’s 46 points to win the team title. North Judson were third at 35 and LaVille fourth with 29 points in the four-team tournament. The HNAC only had four schools with complete teams to compete in the conference tournament.
