Hilda June Targgart
Hilda “June” Targgart, 90, formerly of rural Wolf Lake, went to her Heavenly Home at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015. She had been at Miller’s Oak Pointe, Columbia City, for the past six weeks.
She was born June 30, 1925, in Noble County, a daughter of the late Murry and Eva (Strouse) Shively.
Her formative years were spent in the Merriam area. She graduated from Wolf Lake High School with the class of 1943.
On May 19, 1944, she was united in marriage to Glenn O. Targgart. They made their home on a farm in Noble Township, Noble County. Mr. Targgart died Nov. 9, 2001.
A full time homemaker, she assisted with their farming operations. She served as a Deputy Assessor for Noble County for 10 years and vice-chair of the Republican Party for the 4th District.
She enjoyed quilting and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. A member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren, she was active there for many years. She loved the Lord and was an inspiration to all of her family.
She is survived by three sons: Dan (Cheryl) Targgart, Churubusco; Doug (Dawn) Targgart, Avilla; and Ed (Debbie) Targgart, Fort Wayne; a daughter: Deb (Jeff) Gipe, Columbia City; nine grandchildren: Tim (Amy) Targgart, Albion; Angie (Cary) Stauffer, Berne; Joel (Kaitlyn) Targgart, Fort Wayne; Jason (Val) Gipe, Columbia City; Jolene (Elijah) Stewart, Columbia City; Jeremy (Leslie) Gipe, Columbia City; Caleb, Nathan and Karina Targgart, all of Fort Wayne; 12 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Edith (Dale) Smith, Fort Wayne; Joyce (Paul) Munk, Chapel Hill, N.C.; Lois Byer, Fort Wayne; and Marcia (Russell) Wright, Pine Bush, N.Y. and a brother, Larry (Sharon) Shively, Fort Wayne.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas and Glen Shively and a sister, Thelma Shively.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Blue River Church of the Brethren, 3040 E 700N, Columbia City with Brother Craig Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery at Merriam. The visitation will be Monday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City and one hour prior to the service at the church.
