Trustees To Extend Mitch Daniels’ Contract
WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue University’s board of trustees will vote to approve a further two years of President Mitch Daniel’s presidency Friday morning. If approved, Daniels will continue as the head of the University until the middle of 2020.
The presidency contract relies entirely on performance-based incentives.
The compensation committee voted Thursday to award 90 percent of Daniels’ $126,000 at-risk pay, also approved by the board.
It will be up to the board of trustees to decide if Daniels received $113,400 of at-risk pay for 2014-15, bringing his total compensation to $533,400. As part of a contract extension, Daniels could receive a “retention incentive” of $100,000 in 2016 and an additional $50,000 every year until 2020.
Under the amended contract, Daniels’ at-risk pay would increase from 30 percent of his base salary to $50 percent or $210,000. Next year, Daniels could earn up to $630,000.
These bonuses are based on overall university performance goals, namely graduation rates, student debt, affordability metrics and fundraising.
Daniels has excelled in fundraising methods in the past year, raising a record $343.4 million during the fiscal year.
