James R. Smith
James R. “Jim” Smith, 92, of Wabash, died at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015, at his home in Wabash.
He was born December 9, 1922 in Wabash County to Pearl and Mary (Vinson) Smith.
Jim married Betty Knee in Wabash County, on Aug. 9, 1942.
He served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. Jim was a self employed millwright. He attended the Treaty Church of Christ 85 years, where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher, and after moving to Wabash they attended the Wabash Church of Christ. He enjoyed farming, his cows, and watching birds and squirrels.
He is survived by his wife: Betty Smith of Wabash; three daughters: Shirley A. Long of Wabash, Connie (Glen) Graham of Prairie View, Kan., and Linda (Michael) Tilley of Wabash; 10 grandchildren: Marcie (George) Thurston of Peru, Raymond (Ed) Smith of Belvidere, Ill., David Long of Logansport, Doug (Jennifer) Graham of Covington, Ky., Laura (Lonnie) Jansonius of Prairie View, Susan (Steve) Smith of Ellis, Kan., Jim (Gloria) Winget, Thomas Winget, and Robert (Elizabeth) Winget, all of Wabash, and Michael (Jeanine) Tilley of Peru, 17 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Wabash Church of Christ, 1904 N. Wabash St., Wabash, with Evangelist Glen Graham officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 3-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Ave, Wabash.
Preferred memorial is Wabash Church of Christ.
