Activities This Week At Milford Public Library
By MILFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY STAFF
MILFORD — Activities listed for Milford Public Library Oct. 18-24:
Celebrate National Friends of the Library Week
National Friends of the Library Week is Oct. 18-24. The Friends of the Milford Public Library will have tables set up in the library all week for a membership drive and have information on how our group works to support the library. Refreshments will be served.
There are several levels of membership; Student/senior is $5; individual is $10; family is $15 and corporate is $25 annually. The Friends help the library in many ways; by sorting books for book sales, planning fundraisers and events and assisting library staff.
On Oct. 22, local author Natalie Replogle, will be at the library to speak about her work and do a book signing. Replogle has written three books: “A Rescued Love,” “A Rescued Hope” and “A Rescued Heart.” These titles are available for checking out at the library.
Mark your calendars for the annual Friends of the Library Book and Bake Sale scheduled for Nov. 20 and 21. Bring any gently used donations to the library meeting room for sorting as soon as possible.
Teen Read Week
Milford Public Library will celebrate Teen Read Week, Oct. 18-24, with a selfie station for teens and refreshments on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after school in the teen area of the library. Come in and check out the books that made it to the Top 10.
There will be vacation props to use to make a great photo. Selfies will decorate the teen area for the month of October. Bring your friends to the library after school until 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 and enjoy refreshments while discussing your favorite titles this year.
Fall Story Time
Fall is here. Join Miss Malea for our third week of Fall Story Time at 10:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21 or 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22 as she talks about leaves and apples. Listen to Miss Malea read “Leaves,” by David Stein and “Leaves! Leaves! Leaves!,” by Nancy Wallace.
After listening to stories, we will make an apple magnet. After we make our apple magnets, we will enjoy a snack of apples and dip. See you on Wednesday, Oct. 21 and Thursday, Oct. 22 for story time.
Lapsit
Lapsit is at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday in October. This fall’s theme is apples. We will learn some finger plays, sing some songs such as “Way Up High In An Apple Tree,” and read a few books about apples. Join Miss Malea this Tuesday, Oct. 20 for our third week.
If you have children who would like to be part of Lapsit, you can call or come in and sign up at the desk in the Children’s Department. See you at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Lights Out
Mark your calendars for the most popular program the library offers … Lights Out at the Library. This year’s theme is, “Have a Graphic Novel Halloween!” Tours through the library will be 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, the same hours as Milford’s Trick or Treat. This program is for all ages.
If you would like to donate some full size candy bars to the library to give as treats at the end of the tour, bring your donation to the adult circulation desk.
Super Librarian will greet you at the beginning of the tour. Meet Captain America. Small groups will stop at several stations set up in the library, each one promoting our graphic novel collections in the adult, teen and children’s departments. Admission is free. The tour takes about 15 minutes and children in costume get a treat at the end of the tour. Watch for more information each week.
