WARSAW — Temperatures were cool but mouths were scorching during the Warsaw Farmers Market Chili Cookoff, held Saturday, Oct. 17, in downtown Warsaw.
Fans of spicy chili gathered around to sample homemade concoctions made with some of the hottest peppers in the world — serranos, ghost chilis and scorpion peppers, to name a few.
Judges chose a traditional, Texas no-bean chili by Jeff Stier that contained a variety of hot peppers, which were for sale not far from the cookoff site. While The Hamman Team’s chili did not have a title, it won the most votes for people’s choice.
Contest entries had to be homemade from scratch, though participants were allowed to use pre-made beans, mixes and chili powders. Locally grown ingredients were encouraged.
