World Champion Skaters Come To Warsaw
WARSAW — Eastlake Skate Center is busy this weekend as national and world-champion skaters and trainers participate in the second annual Sk8camp USA, hosted by Eastlake owner, Trace Hansen.
Hansen introduced the four-day program in 2014, drawing skaters from across the country. Participants received instruction from some of the top trainers in the world, including Cristina Moretti, world champion Gustavo Casado and former world and national U.S. champions, Anna Carrier-Barnett, Dezera Salas and Patricia Jacque.
Ages ranged from 5 to 34, with skill levels from beginners to elite skaters like Lorenzo Bertoglio, Sarasota, Fla., who has a list of championships under his belt already and has participated in world championship qualifying competitions.
Each participant has something they hope to gain from this weekends Sk8camp. “I hope to gain experience that can help me adapt what I’m already doing and hopefully gain more results in the future.”
Bertoglio learned about the skate camp through Hansen. He participated last year and hopes to return in 2016.
Samantha Krusza, 11, Lansing, Ill., also participated in the 2014 camp. She learned new jumps last year and hopes to add more to her repertoire this year. Though she is still young, she has already enjoyed success in both pairs and singles skating.
“I just want to keep on going and getting better and hopefully one day I will go to worlds,” she said.
Sk8camp USA started Friday, Oct. 16, and continues through Monday, Oct. 19.
