Alvin J. Snyder
Alvin J. Snyder, 79, South Bend, passed away at 8:15 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Snyder was born on Sept. 21, 1936, in South Bend to the late John Delbert and Maude Pearl (Morrow) Snyder. He has been a lifelong area resident. On May 24, 1958, in Lakeville, he was united in marriage to Marjorie LeClercq who preceded him in death on April 6, 2005. Also preceding Alvin in death were four brothers: John; Howard; Clarence; and Marvin Snyder.
Mr. Snyder retired from Miller Paint Services after 31 years of employment. After retiring, he was a truck driver for Leonard Kelly. Mr. Snyder was a member of the Hoosier A Club, Lakeville Conservation Club and a former member of the Civil Defense of St. Joseph County.
Mr. Snyder is survived by his four children: Timothy Snyder, Fort Wayne; Brian (Debbie) Snyder, South Bend; Sherry (Neal) Phillips, South Bend; and Michele (David) Shirk, Argos; four grandchildren: Talisa Lane; Kaitlyn (Joshua Pratt) Phillips; Amber Emerick; and Ashley Phillips; two sisters: Jane Fries, South Bend; Mary Jean Riffle, Matteson, Ill.; brother: Donald (Barbara) Synder, South Bend; three sisters-in-laws: Margaret LeClercq, Lakeville; Marilyn Birk, Columbia City; and Wilma LeClercq, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville. Rev. Steve Cox, pastor of Cornerstone Community Church in LaPaz, will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, at the Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville.
