Webster Council Flushes Sewer Problem
NORTH WEBSTER — Jerry Juillerat, 116 EMS W30A-1 Lane, approached the North Webster Town Council at its regular meeting Tuesday evening, Oct. 20, about the problems he and his wife Nancy have been having with their sewer system. He noted, “The utilities department has been most helpful in dealing with the problem, but it persists. To flush the toilet, the system has to be primed each time. It worked well for 20 years but no longer. We are looking for a solution.”
Reporting on what his plumbing company, N.E.W. Plumbing said, Juillerat asked for the opinion of North Webster’s Severn Trent Utilities Manager Mike Noe. Noe feels it is a gravity problem in the vacuum system. Noe proposed the town and Juillerat split the costs to adjust the system so it will operate. Council member Lisa Strombeck moved the town and Juillierat split the costs up to $2,000 and the council approved.
The council tabled the tentative award of the contracts for the state mandated sewage system upgrades until November. The actual award cannot be given until the grant funds are received so the postponement will not cause a problem.
Town Attorney Jack Birch received a report from the London Witte Group some of the town’s accounts need to be put in different categories to meet the grant requirements for the sewer improvements. The firm will work with Clerk-Treasurer Betsy Luce.
In the utilities department report, Noe said leaf pickup has begun. Police Chief Greg Church said the officers had responded to 173 calls of service in September with the most, 31, traffic related. Officers were on duty 588.5 hours, drove 3,315 miles and used 261.6 gallons of fuel.
Dave Waliczek, current president of the park board, asked how a replacement for his position on the park board should be chosen. Council President Jon Sroufe answered, “The park board should recommend a candidate to the town council and it will confirm.” Waliczek is unopposed to replace retiring council member Tim Hine at the end of 2015.
North Webster citizen J.D. Routh commended the utilities department on the repair of his street.
The next regular meeting of the council will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the North Webster Community Center, 301 N. Main St.
