Lady Lancers Draw With Taylor
UPLAND – In the regular-season finale on Saturday, Grace’s women’s soccer team and Taylor played to a 1-1 draw.
Both goals were scored within the final 10 minutes of regulation in a wild finish.
Meredith Hollar scored first, netting the go-ahead strike in the 83rd minute. Taylor found an equalizer with just 3:34 remaining in regulation, canceling out a win for the Lady Lancers (13-1-3, 5-1-3 Crossroads League).
Grace had already secured the No. 2 spot in the league standings prior to Saturday evening’s match. The Lady Lancers will play host to seventh-seeded Mt. Vernon Nazarene in the first round of the CL Tournament on Oct. 31.
“Our women played really well today. Our staff is proud of the women on multiple levels. We held excellent possession and played at a quick pace,” said Grace head coach Michael Voss. “We had a few new people holding down significant minutes, and we were still super solid. I’m proud of the women for holding very respectable composure and joy the whole match. We made the jump in what we intended to so we move forward in great position as a team.”
Both teams were credited with 10 shots, although seven of Grace’s 10 shots were on goal.
Hollar had four shots and two shots on goal for the No. 10-ranked Lady Lancers. Mallory Rondeau, Kaitlyn Hayes, Aubrey Feipel, Jordan Hairgrove, Kristen Bellinger and Shelby Fort took one shot apiece.
Abby Schue made four saves in 110 minutes of action as Grace’s goalkeeper.
As the No. 2 seed in the league, Grace will host the CL quarterfinals and the semifinals with a win over Mt. Vernon Nazarene.
