Countdown Begins For City/Town Elections
(EDITOR’S NOTE: The following is overall information on the general election Tuesday, Nov. 3. Individual stories about candidates from each community will be published throughout the remainder of the week.)
KOSCIUSKO COUNTY — The countdown has begun for city/town elections. Polls will open at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, and close at 6 p.m. in the city of Warsaw and towns of Claypool, Mentone, Pierceton and Silver Lake. All five communities will have races for council seats. Claypool will also have a race for clerk-treasurer.
Only those residents residing within city or town limits of the communities listed will be voting.
Here is what is happening in each city/town holding elections as well as voting locations.
Claypool
The only seat not contested in Claypool town elections is that of Town Council North District. There are contested races for clerk-treasurer, town council center and south districts.
Residents will be voting at the Claypool Lion’s Building, 205 W. Calhoun St., the location for Second Precinct.
The town ballot will include:
- Clerk-treasurer — Connie Morgan, Democrat; Elizabeth J. Brewer, Libertarian
- Town Council North District (Vote For 1) — Niki Miller, Democrat
- Town Council Center District (Vote for 1) — Paul T. Berkey, Republican; and Elizabeth Heiman, Democrat
- Town council South District (Vote for 1) — Larry D. Neher, Republican; and Thomas (Tom) E. Burnworth Jr., Democrat.
Mentone
Elections in Mentone will have a race for its town council seats. There are three seats up for election with four individuals seeking those positions. The clerk-treasurer’s race is unopposed.
Voters, for both First Precinct (for the town election only) of Franklin Township and Second Precinct of Harrison Township will cast their votes at the Mentone Fire Station, Ever Room, 201 W. Main St.
The town ballot will include:
- Clerk-treasurer — Barbara Ros, Republican
- Town Council (Vote for 3) — Jill L. Gross, and Shelly L. Kruger, Republicans; Timothy H. Croy, Democrat; and Bobby Eugene Asher, Libertarian.
Pierceton
Pierceton town elections will see a race for the three town council seats available. The clerk-treasurer’s position is unopposed.
Voters in the first, second and third precinct for Washington Township – Town of Pierceton, will cast votes at the Pierceton Community Building, 105 W. Walnut St.
The town ballot will include:
- Clerk-treasurer — Jerry F. Keger, Republican
- Town Council (Vote for 3) — Thomas (Tom) Barker, Matthew Brubaker, Aaron W. Robbins, all Republicans; and Armando (Mandy) Espinoza, Democrat.
Silver Lake
Four individuals are vying for the three town council seats in Silver Lake, while the clerk-treasurer’s position is unopposed.
All voting will take place for Lake Township – Town of Silver Lake’s first and second precinct at the town hall meeting room, 604 N. Jefferson St., Silver Lake.
The town ballot will include:
- Clerk-treasurer — Tonya Conley, Republican
- Town council (Vote for 3) — Chad M. Miner, Philip J. Shalley and Nichole Renee Taylor, Republicans; and Gale Owens, Democrat.
Warsaw
While all elected offices for the city of Warsaw are on the ballot: mayor, clerk-treasurer and six seats on the common council, the only test will be for the city common council’s at-large seat. Three candidates are vying for the two seats.
Polls for the city will be:
Plain Township – Fifth Precinct (City election only) — Center Lake Pavilion, 117 E. Canal St., Warsaw

- First Precinct — United Pentecostal Church, 825 N. Harrison St., Warsaw
- Second Precinct — Oakwood Cemetery Chapel, 421 N. Maple St., Warsaw

Second Ward —
- First Precinct — Shrine Building – Small Room, 1400 E. Smith St., Warsaw
- Second Precinct — Warsaw City Council Chambers, 102 S. Buffalo St., Warsaw
Third Ward —
- First Precinct — Shrine Building – Small Room
- Second Precinct — Church of God, 1059 Rozella Road, Warsaw
- Third Precinct — Church of God
Fourth Ward —
- First Precinct — St. Anne’s Church, 424 W. Market St., Warsaw
- Second Precinct — Kosciusko County Annex Building, FKA First Christian Church, 202 W. Main St., Warsaw

- City Common Council District 3 — Mike Klondaris, Republican
- City Common COuncil District 4 — William G. (Jerry) Frush, Republican
- City Common Council District 5 — Diane Quance, Republican
