Max H. Shideler
Max H. Shideler, 83, Muncie, passed away Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Bethel Pointe Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness.
Max was born May 29, 1932, in Huntington, to the late Hazen and Emmalu Shideler. He graduated from Warsaw High School in 1950 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Education from Ball State University in 1954. He worked as a teacher at Rensselaer High School from 1954 to 1957. He worked for Purdue University as a systems analysist from 1957 to 1971; and retired from Ball State University as Director of Finance in 1998 after 27 years. While at Ball State he was very instrumental in computerizing their payroll and finances. Max was an active member of Yorktown United Methodist Church, B.S.U. Alumni Association, and the Cardinal Varsity Club. He enjoyed most all sports, traveling, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 64 years: Cophine Shideler; three children: Leigh Ellen Peters, Muncie; Randy (Wendy) Shideler, Noblesville; and Denise (Ted) Shockley, Albany; four grandchildren: Shelley Likens; Kyle (Monica) Wilbur; Travis (Nydia) Shockley; and Tiffaney (Eric) McClurg; 14 great-grandchildren: Joey Bourne; Mikey Carter; Darius Carter; Da’Nae Carter; Da’Leigha Behnke; Kaleigh Likens; Karmin Likens; John Likens; Hailey Wilbur; Haiden Wilbur; Maci McClurg; Drake McClurg; Mia Shockley; and Kevin Munoz; an uncle: Edson (Val) Finkenbiner; and a brother-in-law: Jim Keeton.
Max was preceded in death by two sisters: Monna Goon; and Peggy Keeton; and a granddaughter: Jennifer Behnke.
A funeral Service to celebrate Max’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at Garden View Funeral Home, Muncie. Pastor Peter Curts will officiate. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.
Friends and family may gather to share and remember from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, and also one hour prior to services Saturday at Garden View Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Cardinal Varsity Club, Muncie.
