Several Area Students Named To HS Heisman List
A quality athlete, student and citizen are all required for those considered to be the best. For nearly a dozen young men and women, they are on the short list up for the Wendy’s High School Heisman award.
Locally, 11 students were selected among the over 100 in the state of Indiana as part of the national pool. Triton’s Jeremy Jones, Tippecanoe Valley’s Katie Gunter, Wawasee’s Kylee Rostochak and Whitko’s Danielle Krider are among the group, which also includes Jack Barron and Hailey Rains of Plymouth, Chelsea Huppert and Benjamin Nick of Bremen, Chase Kieper of Northridge, Miranda Kresse of Westview and Christina Sanchez of Lakeland.
For 22 years, Wendy’s, in partnership with the Heisman Memorial Trophy, has recognized outstanding students and rewarded their commitment and achievements to academics, athletics and community on a national level.The next announcement, Nov. 2, will include the names of the State Finalists selected from every state and the District of Columbia.
Following the State Finalists’ announcement, the names of the two State Winners, one male and one female, will be revealed before the field is narrowed down to 10 National Finalists. The 10 National Finalists, five males and five females, and their families will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City to attend the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Ceremony and the announcement of the two National Winners.

Wendy’s High School Heisman Winners are Game Changers
Created by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas in 1994, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award has honored more than 600,000 of the nation’s most esteemed high school seniors who have been a part of the program for the past 22 years. Since its inception, Wendy’s High School Heisman Award has awarded 252 National Finalists and 42 National Winners.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award is a joint program between Wendy’s and the Heisman Trophy Trust, host and custodians of the Heisman Memorial Trophy. Nolan Henry of Camas, WA, continues his heralded football career at Notre Dame, and Lauren Van Vlierbergen of Algonquin, IL, who is competing on the cross country and track and field teams at the University of Michigan, received the prestigious award last year.
