Caution: Zombie Invasion At Milford School
WAWASEE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS — Milford School is in the midst of an epidemic, a zombie epidemic. However, it’s all in good fun with the Wawasee Outdoor Club offering the free event — Zombie Zone — for middle school age students. The event, which is currently underway at the school, runs from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. And due to inclement weather, it has been moved within the school rather than taking place as originally planned on its cross country course.
Zombie Zone is a mix between a zombie run and obstacle course with trick-or-treating added in for fun. Middle school students are given three ribbons and asked to follow the marked course through the school, completing different tasks; but beware, zombies are lurking in the halls and eager for would-be victims.
It is students’ task to keep all their ribbons by the end to reap a larger hoard of candy. Participants will also be able to get candy by successfully completing different stations, such as finding mini skeletons in sludge, getting an eyeball to stick to inflatable skeletons or maneuvering their way through an obstacle course. Students can make as many laps as they want; however, they can only complete the candy stations one time per lap. Laps are allowed until the candy is gone.
Amy Evans, a teacher at Milford School, helped students bring the event to fruition. “My Warrior Time kids came up with the idea, and it just grew from there. The kids really came up with it.”
She added that they have six high school students involved, plus 10 middle school kids and several parents. “Setting up was the most fun part,” Evans said, noting it really allowed her to get to know the kids. “It’s been a lot of fun.”
Beyond providing a safe, fun activity for middle school students, the event — as befitting for the Wawasee Outdoor Club — also encourages them to be active.
