Betty M. Sinclair
Betty M. Sinclair, 94, passed away at 9:10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, 2015, at Greencroft Nursing Center. She had been a resident there since 2011. She was born June 2, 1921, in Milwaukee, Wis. to Edwin Sr. and Anna (Olesen) Moody. On June 7, 1942, she married Robert “Pat” Sinclair, former Nappanee Mayor, in Porter. He preceded her in death Sept. 7, 1985.
Mrs. Sinclair was a graduate of Horace Mann High School in Gary. She served during WW II in San Francisco in the United States Women’s Marine Corp. The Sinclairs moved to Nappanee in 1948, where she was a homemaker and had also worked at the Sears Catalog Store and Thornburgs. She was a member of the Nappanee United Methodist Church, where she was active in the United Methodist Women, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and served on the Thrift Shop Committee. Mrs. Sinclair served on the Nappanee City Council for 4 years and also on the Nappanee Board of Works. She was a member of the Nappanee American Legion Auxiliary, former Camp Fire assistant leader and served on the Camp Fire Council for many years. She was a former member of the Red Cross Board of Directors and had served as co-chairperson of the March of Dimes for nine years. She also bowled in the Thursday night Ladies League for 30 years.
Surviving are her children: Deborah Sinclair, Nappanee; R. Duncan (Patricia) Sinclair, Eden Pririe, Min.; grandchildren: Rob Duncan (Carrie) Sinclair, Gilbert, Ariz.; Melinda (Gary) Leising, Clinton, N.Y.; Kristin (John) Bolden, Avon Lake, Ohio; six great-grandsons: Corey and Brody Sinclair; Jude and Ewan Leising; J.D. and Joshua Bolden; a brother: Donn (Carolyn) Moody, Portland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers: Edwin Moody Jr.; Robert Moody; and sisters: Muriel Griffith; and Mary Jane Balash.
Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at Thompson-Lengacher and Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee; and one hour prior to the funeral. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, at the Nappanee United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Davidson will officiate. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, at Chesterton Cemetery, Chesterton.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Nappanee United Methodist Church or Greencroft Employee Appreciation Fund.
