Weatherman Al Roker Visiting Goshen
GOSHEN — Goshen, get ready for Rokerthon 2.
Yes, that’s the “Today” show’s famous weatherman Al Roker, who is bringing his attempt at yet another weather-related world record right through Goshen.
If you don’t know what “Rokerthon” is, Roker achieved a world record last year for the longest uninterrupted live TV weather report after delivering the weather for 34 straight hours.
Now Roker is at it again — this time supporting the Feeding America cause — and this year’s record-setting goal is reporting the weather live from each of the 50 states in one week.
Rokerthon starts in Hawaii on Friday, Nov. 6. Roker will stop in Goshen on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and the whole endeavor will wrap up on Rockerfeller Plaza on Friday, Nov. 13. There are 47 more cities and states he has to visit next week, so with his busy schedule, local officials are delighted he chose Goshen for his Indiana stop.
“I hope he brings good weather,” said David Daugherty, president of the Goshen Chamber of Commerce. “It’ll be fun to have him. I couldn’t think of a better place.”
Daugherty said that Roker’s visit is a “great opportunity” for putting Goshen in the national spotlight, if even for only a few minutes.
“We have a reputation that something special is happening in Goshen,” Daugherty said. “We have an eclectic set of places, and it’s neat for all ages. It’s unusual for a downtown to have a complete range for all ages.”
Roker won’t likely have time to visit, though, because Goshen isn’t his only stop on Tuesday. He’ll also be swinging through cities in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Michigan and Ohio.
Maybe he’ll be able to grab a quick coffee at the Electric Brew before he goes.
