WMS Hosting Robotics Competition
SYRACUSE — Wawasee Middle School will host a robotics competition Saturday, Nov. 21. Competition rounds may be viewed by the public from 12:30 to 4 p.m. It will be the first robotics tournament ever hosted by the school.
The competition will be held in the south end of the school. WMS is located on SR 13, south of Syracuse and just south of CR 1000N.
During the morning sessions (not open to the public), students will present their ideas, talk about their robots and programming, and explain their core values as a team. The afternoon session (open to the public) is where they get to show off what their robot can do on the mission tables.
Awards and closing ceremonies begin at 4:15 p.m. Teams have to place in the top five out of 14 teams in the robotics games in order to be considered to advance to the state tournament. The judges will then look at how the top five teams did in the sessions to determine who goes on to the state tournament. Only three teams from the tournament advance to the state tournament Dec. 12 at IPFW in Fort Wayne.
“This is a free tournament to the public,” said Ryan Edgar, WMS teacher and robotics instructor. “Banners, signs, loud chanting are very welcome.”
