Raymond A. ‘Bud’ Loe
Raymond A. “Bud” Loe, 93, South Whitley, died at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne where he was admitted on Monday.
He was born March 11, 1922, in Columbia City, a son of the late Wilber R. and Viola (Hartman) Loe. He spent his formative years in Whitley County graduating from South Whitley High School.
Following his graduation, he went to work for the Nickle Plate Railroad. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Railroad battalion in Iran. After his discharge, he returned to work with the Nickle Plate, now Norfolk and Southern, until his retirement in 1983. He was the South Whitley section foreman.
On June 28, 1947, he was united in marriage to Esther A. Schaub. They made their home in Fort Wayne moving to South Whitley in 1966. Mrs. Loe died July 10, 2015. After his retirement, he enjoyed vegetable gardening and making cloths pin carvings which he gave to family and friends. He liked fishing trips to Michigan.
He is survived by a daughter: Theresa (James) Calvin, Hicksville, Ohio; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Omar Loe, Gaylord, Mich.; Robert Loe, Miami, Fla.; and Jim (Sylvia) Loe, Henderson, Nev.; two sisters: Jean Weise, Appleton, Wis.; and Joan Barnes, Scottsdale, Ariz. He was preceded in death by a sister: June Smith; and a brother: Verlin Loe.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church. Burial will be in the Nolt Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
