An Indiana Haunting: Tracking The Paranormal
NAPPANEE — After a life of experiencing things that could not be explained, Kina Fuller reluctantly accepted ghosts as an aspect of her life. It wasn’t until Fuller married and joined her newly found family that she began to accept the world of paranormal around her. The family began watching ghost hunting television shows and soon after, Tim and his sons joined Fuller in tracking ghosts on their own with Indiana Ghost Trackers, a non-profit team that performs free, confidential investigations for homes and businesses.
According to Fuller, an investigation begins with an interview process in which members of Indiana Ghost Trackers can delve into the evidence of a potential haunting with a home or business owner. The organization sets up equipment for an “EVP session” where trackers will ask questions of the entity with a standard recorder. Fuller notes this has yielded results in the past where very clear recordings have been captured of a spirit speaking to the tracker. Further evidence is captured and recorded at the home/business with EMF detectors, thermal cameras, kinetic energy cameras, digital cameras and recorders and is reported to the homeowner.
An important aspect of the process is confidentiality according to Fuller. No information about the findings is released to the public without the owner’s approval first.
Even here in Kosciusko the group has had their share of activity. The family visited the Barbee Hotel, a spot rife with local lore regarding hauntings. Fuller noted the rumors are very much true.
“Our home life is very interesting because we all can see things. We see shadows and balls of energy that move about the house. We have experiences from time to time. We had a time where all of our light bulbs would burn out no matter where they were… It didn’t matter how long they had been in the light. We have a printer that would just go off like it was getting ready to print but never would, no one was near it.“
When we went to Waverly Hills in Louisville, Ky., several years ago, I brought a little girl home with me. When she first got here she started to scare our daughter. I simply told her that she could stay but not to show herself to our daughter. She still lives in our house and we see her from time to time. I have also picked her up on our SLS xcam.”
Fuller noted though a “haunting” can happen to anyone, there are certain people who are more prone to these encounters. Poltergeist, which Fuller notes are bad spirits with malicious intentions, are drawn to those with heavy drama in their life and negativity — which particularly includes teenage girls according to Fuller.
“Everyone has an energy. For those with a lot of drama in their life, a poltergeist can sense there is something not right about them. The being can follow you home from anywhere and will continue to draw off your energy.”
Those open to seeing ghosts and those who “call out” to the deceased are also more likely to experience encounters. According to Fuller, those who dabble in voodoo, Ouija boards and other forms of “communication” are opening themselves up to having potential negative encounters.
“You need to know what you are doing before you get involved with these things… Spirits, like people, can pretend to be a good presence but they may not be. We haven’t put ourselves out there for those kinds of experiences. We pray before entering a possible haunting for safety and that any malicious entities will remain behind.
