Plummer Petition Tabled By County BZA
WARSAW — Among the agenda items on a shorter than normal agenda for the Kosciusko County Board of Zoning Appeals was a petition by James Plummer, who lives on CR 1200N, east of Woodland Acres Drive in Turkey Creek Township. The petition was considered by the BZA during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Warsaw.
Plummer is asking for an exception to allow, after the fact, a landscaping business in a pole barn on property zoned residential. Apparently there was a misunderstanding among some of the neighbors concerning Plummer’s intentions as they were led to believe the pole barn would be smaller and not used for a business. Attorneys Richard Helm and Paul Stoelting represented a few of the neighbors, said Matt Sandy, assistant county planner.
The petition was tabled until the Dec. 8 meeting to allow time for an agreement to possibly be reached.
Other agenda items included:
• Stephen Naugler’s petition for an exception to allow construction of an oversized accessory building on Memorial Parkway in Turkey Creek Township was tabled until the Dec. 8 meeting. Board members want a more detailed profile of what the building will look like and for Naugler to talk to his neighbors about his intentions.
• James Sarll’s petition for an exception to allow water damaged walls to encroach adjacent properties and the right of way was denied. The property is on South Hill Drive, east of Sunnyside Lane in Seward Township. There were conflicting surveys of the property done, but they showed the walls coming very close to a sideline.
• David Oakes, not present at the meeting, earlier requested his petition be tabled, which was granted, until Dec. 8. He is asking for an exception to allow an oversized accessory building on South Barbee Drive at the intersection with EMS B22 Lane in Tippecanoe Township. He will need a variance too.
• Derek Flora was granted an exception to alter a previous case by expanding the use of outdoor storage of vehicles on SR 15, north of CR 600N in Plain Township.
• Kosciusko County Animal Welfare League was granted an exception to allow a kennel on CR 325E off the south side of US 30 in Wayne Township by railroad tracks.
• Frank Rhoades was granted an exception to allow mineral extraction for personal use and to sell on CR 900E, south of Old US 30 in Washington Township.
• David Knoerzer was granted a variance to leave an existing wall as reconstructed without a hearing or permit on Graceland Avenue in Claypool.
• Colin Winter was granted a variance to allow the re-configuration of four properties on Eli Lilly Road, east of Warner Road in Turkey Creek Township.
• And Tom Metzger’s petition for a temporary sign board to remain as placed for 52 weeks each year (ordinance allows no more than 15 consecutive days, no more than twice within six months) on Ferguson Road in Wayne Township was denied. Metzger used the sign board for personal messages.
