Driver In August Motorcycle Vs. Car Accident Charged
Sarah Ann Wood, 35, 787 S. Bunting Lane, Warsaw, driver of a van which collided with a motorcycle, killing the driver, has been charged with causing the death of another person when operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in her blood. The charge, filed Nov. 2, is a level 4 felony.
Larry W. Sidwell, 53, Anderson, operator of a Harley Davidson motorcycle, died on Aug. 10, seven days after his motorcycle collided with Wood’s van. The accident was at 2:13 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at SR 13 and CR 500E, Pierceton. Sidwell was flown from the scene by Lutheran Air, to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, with severe head and internal injuries.
Court documents state when police arrived at the scene they found Sidwell had been ejected and landed south of the collision on the west side of SR 13. He was conscious and responsive with a laceration to his head.
Wood consented to a drug test at Kosciusko Community Hospital. On Aug. 7, the results were received showing she tested positive for marijuana. Blood tests, returned on Sept. 10, also indicated a positive result for the presence of marijuana in the blood.
When police spoke to police following the test results, she stated she thought she had smoked marijuana on the Saturday before the crash.
She was held on $2,500 cash bond.
