Grace To Host Hoops For Hope Tourneys
WINONA LAKE – The Grace College basketball programs will play host to the annual Bennigan’s Terry Polston Hoops for Hope Tournaments the next two weekends at the Manahan Orthopaedic Capital Center.
The men’s four-team tournament will take place this weekend on Friday and Saturday while the women’s tourney will be held Nov. 20-21.
Admission to watch the games is $5 per day, and all proceeds will go directly to Kosciusko County Cancer Care Fund (KCCCF). The tournament is sponsored by Bennigan’s of Warsaw and the Warsaw Morning Optimist Club.
All cancer survivors are welcome to attend the tournament free of charge. The tournament is also in remembrance of D.A.R.E. Officer Terry Polston, who succumbed to lung cancer after a nine-year battle.
Joining the No. 14-ranked Lancers in the men’s tournament are Great Lakes Christian, Grace Bible and Purdue Calumet.
The women’s tournament features host Grace, along with Goshen College, Rochester and Roosevelt.
The Grace men’s team, which is 4-0 on the season, will play Great Lakes Christian in the second game at 8 p.m. Friday night. The opener pits Grace Bible versus Purdue Calumet. The consolation game is at 1 p.m. Saturday with the championship contest at 3 p.m.
The Lancer men’s squad owns wins over Wilberforce (76-67), Lawrence Tech (61-59), St. Xavier (78-65) and Trinity International (86-71).
The Grace women’s squad will play Rochester on Nov. 20 at 7 p.m., following the Goshen College-Roosevelt contest at 5. Grace will then play Roosevelt on Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. after Goshen faces Rochester starting at 11 a.m.
The Grace women’s team is 2-3 on the season after an 80-57 loss to Indiana Tech Wednesday night. The Lancer ladies have wins over IUSB (48-46) and Trinity Christian (74-61) with losses to Holy Cross (56-47), IU-Northwest (70-65) and Indiana Tech. The women’s team is scheduled to play at Calumet-St. Joseph Friday night and then play an exhibition game at NCAA Division I program IPFW on Monday at 5 p.m.
