UPDATE: Wind, Thunderstorms, Snow, Cold
NORTHERN INDIANA — A strong storm system will bring the potential for accumulating snow this weekend, mainly from Friday night into Saturday. This system is still several days out and any small changes in forecast track will influence the potential of accumulating snow, and whether precipitation falls as mainly rain or snow.
Behind the storm system, an intrusion of arctic air will plunge into the region, bringing our coldest temperatures of the year. Lows Saturday night will fall into the lower 20s, with highs barely reaching the lower 30s. Temperatures will moderate beginning Monday.
The National Weather Service Northern Indiana issued a hazardous weather outlook at 5:28 a.m. today, Nov. 18, for portions of northwest Ohio, northern Indiana and southwest lower Michigan.
For today, southerly winds of 20 miles per hour to 30 mph are expected with a few gusts in the 35 mph to 45 mph range possible. There is a slight change of thunderstorms this morning. Severe storms are not expected.
Accumulating snow is likely this weekend, especially over far southern lower Michigan into northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. Snow amounts are still uncertain. Much colder air will spread over the area Sunday with wind chill temperatures falling to around 10 degrees by late Sunday night.
This hazardous weather outlook includes Kosciusko, Fulton, Whitley, Marshall, Noble, Wabash, LaPorte, St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaGrange, Steuben, DeKalb, Starke, Pulaski, Allen, White-Cass, Miami, Huntington, Wells, Adams, Grant, Blackford, and Jay along with several counties in Michigan and Ohio.
