IUSB Hoops Teams Win Close Ones
SOUTH BEND – The IUSB men’s and women’s basketball teams each came away with close home wins over Holy Cross College Wednesday night.
The men’s team rallied from a slow start to top Holy Cross 62-59 after the women’s team held off a late rally from their guests for a 49-48 win.
IUSB trailed 13-0 to start the game and 36-24 at halftime of the men’s contest before putting together a strong second half performance.
Jeremy Jones scored 16 points as IUSB improved to 5-1, the best start in school history.
T.J. Benner and Javonte Young, both of whom played at Mishawaka High School, each had 10 points for the Titans.
Riley Stichter, a product of Wawasee High School, had nine points for IUSB. Stichter, a starting guard for the Titans, also had seven rebounds.
Courtney Smith had a huge game with 25 points as the IUSB women held on for their win. Emily Macellari scored nine points and Paige Avery, who played at Mishawaka, seven points for the Titans, who are now 5-3.
Tagin Schultheis, another former Mishawaka player, led Holy Cross with 13 points. Eryn Leek, who played at Warsaw, had nine points for Holy Cross and Shana Anderson, a former Triton standout, had four points and seven rebounds for Hoy Cross, now 1-5.
IUSB will host St. Xavier University Saturday with the women’s game at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s contest.
