One Killed, Three Injured On US 24 Crash
WABASH — One person was killed and three others injured, including two children, in a two-vehicle accident involving a semitractor-trailer accident. The accident was at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, on US 24 at Alber Street. Heavy fog was present in the area at the time of the accident.
Cheryl K. Koehler, 71, Wabash, was pronounced dead at the scene by Wabash County Coroner Carol Whitesel. Three passengers in her vehicle were also injured. Jessica M. Gaston, 34, Wabash, was taken to Lutheran Hospital in critical condition with severe head injuries and underwent surgery. Kedron Gaston, 12, and Khloe Gaston, 9, both of Wabash were transported to Lutheran Hospital. Kedron Gaston suffered a fractured skull and lacerations and was listed in serious condition. Khloe Gaston, suffered non-life threatening head injuries.
Wabash County Sheriff Bob Land reports Jackie C. Hazeltine, 64, Columbus, Ohio, was eastbound on US 24, in a semitractor-trailer and was stopping for the traffic light. Koehler, who was also eastbound, failed to slow or stop her vehicle, hitting the rear of the semitrailer.
An accident reconstructionist from the Wabash Police Department was on scene. The investigation is continuing.
