By TERESA EVANS
4-H Secretary, Purdue Extension-Elkhart County
ELKHART COUNTY — The Elkhart County 4-H Beef Club has set the animal ID dates for Dec. 12, and an additional date on Feb. 20, at the Shipshewana Auction Barn located on SR 5. Animals will be identified between 9 a.m. and noon. In order for animals to be eligible to show at the 2016 Elkhart County 4-H Fair and the Indiana State Fair, the animals will need to be tagged and identified.
Animals this year will also have to be enrolled in the data management system at 4HOnline.com. This is the same website used for 4-H youth enrollment. Beef animals cannot be identified until the youth are properly enrolled in the 4-H program.
4-H is apart the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service and is open to all youth that are enrolled in grades 3-12. 4-H enrollment opened this year Oct. 1, and will close Jan. 15. To enroll in 4-H and learn more about the projects and opportunities that 4-H offers, please go to the Purdue Extension Elkhart County website or by calling (574) 533-0554.
