Fort Wayne Phoenix Semi-Pro On Horizon
Carlos Cruz, Director of the club and Owner of Fort Wayne Futsal states: “Futsal is a great game to help develop skills in soccer players. It lends itself to so many positive things beyond the fun of the game.”
Fort Wayne Phoenix was first launched in the summer of 2015. With seven teams in the summer season, boys and girls, the club competed in a regional futsal league against clubs from Michigan, and ended up with positive results. Now the club is getting ready for the US Youth Futsal regional and national tournaments for the youth teams. Tournaments will be played in January and February. The club is setting high goals – To be the first National Champions in the state of Indiana!
Futsal is the only form of indoor soccer endorsed by FIFA. It earned the status of FIFA’s official form of indoor soccer in the 1980s as it was recognized as a scaled down version of outdoor soccer played indoors. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball sized court with a smaller, heavier low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls.
