Jacob Studer discusses his business.
BILLINGS, MONT. — Jacob Studer is a second grader, a businessman and a philanthropist. He founded Billings Best Hiking Sticks to help raise money for those in need.
“Every time I make $100 I will give it to a thing that needs it like the poor, cancer, even the pet shelter. You know like the pets that are in danger and that don’t have homes?” said Jacob.
His first cause, the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch program at his school, Eldergrove.
“First it was he wanted to do something for his teacher, then we got to talking and just with the aspect of my job being a counselor at Eldergrove, I know about our YGBR program and so we got to talking one day and just said maybe we could help those kids and he loved that idea,” said Anna Studer, Jacob’s mom.
The program helps students at the school who need extra counseling. The money Jacob raised will go to help them provide snacks and field trips for the kids.
“I am so proud. Just so proud and I want to help him and do whatever I can and I want to keep it going,” said his mom. “He just was born with a big heart. It’s not just this great event that he has done but anywhere we go he is looking at other people, he is thinking about what they need.”
And his business is growing. Jacob started with sales in his driveway, and now he’s online.
“Since mom came up with the website we are just waiting for orders since we have so many customers,” said Jacob.
“People can order and we will deliver them and we will take branches if you need to get rid of them so we can make more sticks,” said his mom.
But when asked about his favorite part about the whole experience, Jacob told us;
“Selling. I am a salesman.”
If you want to buy one of Jacob’s custom hiking sticks you can go to his website. It’s $7 for a “grown up” hiking stick and $5 for a child’s.
