One Arrested After Taking Son Along To Buy Drugs
WARSAW — Derrick Gasaway, 24, 4335 E. CR 725S, Warsaw, has been arrested for neglect of a dependent after allegedly purchasing and using drugs while his son was with him.
According to court documents, a female drove Gasaway and his son to South Bend, where Gasaway met with another female subject.
Upon returning to Warsaw, Gasaway reportedly used a hypodermic needle to inject himself with a substance and became unresponsive. Court documents state that Gasaway was still in the vehicle when he injected himself and that his son was still in the backseat.
The driver of the vehicle took Gasaway to Kosciusko Community Hospital. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, officers found paraphernalia and a rocklike substance that tested positive for heroin. Police later spoke with Gasaway, who admitted to using heroin approximately every two days and to using methamphetamine in the past.
The female admitted to police that she knew Gasaway intended to purchase the heroin and that she was the one who drove him and his son to the hospital. Gasaway was arrested for neglect of a dependent and taken to the Kosciusko County Jail on a $10,000 surety and $250 cash bond.
