Chargers Rise Up In Fourth Quarter
HUNTERTOWN – The win was there for the taking, and the host Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers grabbed it. Using a monster fourth quarter, Carroll pulled away for a 59-41 girls basketball win against Warsaw Wednesday night.
The tide turned in the final quarter that saw a 37-35 Carroll lead turn into a 22-6 fourth quarter run for the Chargers.
Carroll (7-2) had major contributions from Becca Villanueva, who led the squad with 17 points and added three rebounds and three steals. Kelli Damman added 13 points and Julia Miller finished with 10 points. The trio were 6-12 from three-point range.
Dayton Groninger again led Warsaw (0-9) with 15 points, 12 of which came in the paint. Groninger also had six boards and three assists but was tabbed with 10 turnovers.
Page Desenberg posted nine points and seven boards and Kenzie Welk dropped in seven points for the Tigers.
The JV game went to Carroll in a 55-17 final.
Warsaw will enter Northern Lakes Conference play Saturday at Plymouth while Carroll will host Fort Wayne Concordia Friday night.
