ELKHART — Dawn and Pete Recchio have been champions of downtown Elkhart’s re-emergence as a place to live, work and play and they are leveraging their success in retail with a new business on South Main Street.
Dwellings, 128 S. Main St., bills itself as an “eclectic home furnishings” locale. The classic storefront features large front windows, a high, tin-pressed ceiling and a large selection of chairs, tables, doors, dressers and accents, along with mineral paint supplies and the knowledge and guidance do-it-yourselfers have received from the Recchios through the years.
“The Gateway Mile is an important asset for our entire community and Dawn and I are committed to supporting downtown by living and working here,” Pete Recchio said. “This new business will allow us to focus on home furnishings. It will allow Dawn the opportunity to better assist our customers with custom painting, decorating advice and purchasing.”
People visiting downtown Elkhart for Gateway Mile Christmas can preview Dwellings between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12. The Recchios will have an official opening Jan. 4 and complete store information will be available on Facebook.
The Recchios opened The Black Crow on Main, 224 S. Main St., in December, 2013. The store continues, though it has changed ownership to longtime downtown merchant Patrick Hopman. The Recchios will remain active members of downtown’s business and resident groups.
