MILFORD — Nutrition program, craft night, reindeer program, knitting and more happening at Milford Public Library:
Recipes That “Squash” Hunger Program
The Milford Public Library recently hosted a nutrition program, “Recipes That Squash Hunger.” Retired teacher, Sue Price, presented the program focusing on recipes using pumpkin, acorn, butternut and spaghetti squash. She shared a very informative handout with everyone attending.
According to information found on www.organicfacts.net, squash is one of the most versatile vegetables available throughout the world, and it packs a serious punch in terms of healthy, medicinal benefits. Different varieties of squash have the ability to improve the quality of your sight, boost skin health, strengthen the immune system, prevent cancer, manage symptoms of diabetes, build strong bones, protect heart health, reduce symptoms of insomnia, prevent inflammatory conditions, treat arthritis, eliminate ulcers, eliminate parasites and infections, increase prostate health, protects against birth defects, boosts respiratory health, and reduces blood pressure. Ms. Price demonstrated how to bake a spaghetti squash and made a delicious dish using the squash, pasta sauce and shredded cheese.
She also brought squash tea bread, roasted seeds and butternut squash and apple harvest soup. Attendees were invited to sample all the delicious food. Door prizes were given at the end of the program. Charlotte Siegfried won a copy of the book, “Pumpkin and squash cookbook” by Valerie Ferguson. Rhonda Estrada took home a copy of “Pumpkin: a super food for all 12 months of the year” by Dee Dee Stovel. Nancy Levernier chose a copy of “Smitten with squash” by Amanda Paa. These three titles, plus others, are available to patrons to check out. Our next nutrition program is tentatively scheduled for February, 2016.

Tax Exempt Donation
Those of you looking to make tax exempt donations before filing your 2015 taxes, please consider making a donation to the Milford Public Library Endowment Fund. The Fund was established to someday generate an extra source of income for the library’s operating fund. Our hope is that the library will be around for many years to come, providing needed and appreciated services to the Milford community. Making a donation to the Endowment will support the library in years to come. If you would like more information, call 658-4312 and ask for Julie.
