Lyle R. Mayhew
Lyle R. Mayhew, 72, Syracuse, passed away at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at his home. He was born on June 4, 1943, in Clare, Mich. to Arthur and Ethel (Johnston) Mayhew.
He attended Clare High School, was a United States Army veteran, and moved to the Syracuse area in 1983 from Hillsdale, Mich. He was married on Oct. 7, 1994, to Beth Ann (Anglemyer) Minnix who preceded him on April 14, 2014. He retired in 2003 from Dana Corporation after 30 years and formerly worked at Culver Military Academy in Culver, for 3 years as a drill sergeant.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 223, V.W.F. and Eagles Lodge all of Syracuse.
He is survived by two sons: Rob (Stacy Naugler) Mayhew; Mark Mayhew, both of Syracuse; stepdaughter: Tina (Steve) Phipps, Warsaw; stepson: Tracy (Renee) Minnix, Syracuse; four grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Jessie Wilson, Clare, Mich.; Annabelle Curtis, Midland, Mich.; two brothers: Leon Mayhew, Prescott, Ariz.; and Stewart Mayhew, Coleman, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; stepson: Troy Minnix; sister: Ramona Stebelton; and two brothers: Bill and Ernest Mayhew.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Harlan Steffen of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating. Military services will be performed by the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse. Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw. Private family burial will take place in the Syracuse Cemetery.
