Martha Jane Ives
Martha Jane Ives, 91, of Culver passed away Dec. 17, 2015 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Plymouth.
Martha was born on January 14, 1924 in Culver, Indiana, to Hazel and Clarence “Red” Calhoun. She was
one of four sisters. She actually started school when she was five because she just couldn’t wait to go to
school. She graduated from Culver High School in 1941. She married Raymond J. “Doc” Ives June 10, 1943,
She and Doc spent over 40 years together until his death in 1983. They spent their entire lives as
Culver residents. They raised two girls, Jane Anne (Roger) Leland and Mary Beth (Ron) Zink. After the girls
were big enough, Martha went back to work in the finance department of the State Exchange Bank in Culver
and served as assistant cashier for many years. After retirement, she and Doc traveled extensively and
spent part of each winter in Panama City, Fla.
Throughout her life, Martha served her church and worked at the church thrift shop. She taught Sunday
School and served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Eastern Star for many years and was
active in several bridge clubs over the years. Most importantly, she has been a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.
Martha is survived by her two daughters: Jane Anne (Roger) Leland of Plymouth and Mary Beth (Ron) Zink
of Rochester as well as her three grandchildren: Adam (Sarah) Zink, Amanda (Tim) Leland Burt, and Erik
(Erica) Zink, and three great-grandchildren: Brayden and Camden Zink and Cecilia Burt, all of whom
adore her. Her greatest joy in life has always been her much beloved family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and three sisters: Helen Hood, Mildred Logan and
Edna Taylor.
A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, with services to follow at 7:00 pm. Interment will be private.
