Morgan A Double Winner At Zionsville
ZIONSVILLE – In the red circle meet for Warsaw swim coach Tony DeBrota, one element he already knew to be produced at another level. Junior Brenna Morgan won both the 50 and 100 freestyles for Warsaw in the competitive Zionsville Invite Saturday.
Morgan blew through the 50 at 24.29 and came back after the break to win the 100 at 52.27. Morgan won the 50 by more than a second, and outgunned Zionsville’s Kylie Mihok by .22. Morgan would also anchor the 200 free relay team along with Olivia Herman, Lauren Kuhl and Laurel Moeller to a third-place time of 1:45.34.
The other top-five for the Warsaw girls was Delaney Wihebrink’s 1:04.25 in the backstroke, taking fifth place.
The Warsaw girls placed fourth with 307 points behind Zionsville’s 606, Castle’s 571 and Terre Haute South’s 324.
The Warsaw boys didn’t crack to the top three in any event, but had seven top five’s on the day.
Ethan Cook was fourth in the 200 free (1:49.60) and fifth in the butterfly (56.42). Matt Wildman also had a pair of fourths, going 22.73 in the 50 and 50.62 in the 100. Zach Taylor was fifth in the individual medley at 2:09.01.
Cook was on both of Warsaw’s fourth-place relays, joining Wildman, Alex Cook and Riley Newton for a 1:33.40 in the 200 free relay, and combined with Taylor, Hudson Snyder and Adam Doyle for a 3:32.73 in the 400 free relay.
The Tigers were third in the team standings with 415 points, well behind champion Zionsville’s 625 and runner-up Castle’s 491.
“Overall, I am proud of our team,” DeBrota said. “Tempo was great, kicks started off strong but got worse as the meet went on. We still got some best times out of the meet. We’re going to have to work on speed training when we are tired during these next couple weeks.”
Warsaw will use the Christmas Break to regroup for a double dual with Tippecanoe Valley and Huntington North Jan. 6 and then a huge conference showdown at Concord Jan. 9.
