Milford Photographer’s Image Makes State History
MILFORD — When photographer Michael Matti, Milford, took a shot of a sunset one evening, he had no way of knowing the image would make state history.
Matti was on his way home one evening and noticed that, as the sun set, it created a picturesque scene the photographer in him had to capture. Matti turned onto CR 1100N, climbed onto the roof of his car and took a shot that would make Indiana history.
“It just got too good not to stop and capture it,” Matti said. “The dirt road leading off into the distance was what first got my attention but then, after I pulled over, I ended up standing on top of my car to get an angle looking down on the corn as well.”
Representatives from the Bicentennial committee came across the photo online and contacted Matti, who submitted that and other images he had taken.
“I sent over a few photos of Indiana that were put in a group of photos that went to a selection committee, I believe,” Matti said. “This photo was then chosen by the committee.”
Matti lived in Milford from 2001-2013. A 2009 graduate of Lakeland Christian Academy, Winona Lake, he went on to attend Indiana Wesleyan University, graduating with a degree in photography.
“I changed my major to photography half way through college at Indiana Wesleyan University,” he said. “Before that, I was studying a number of different things, including business. I guess I just found the business that I loved to do and decided to commit to it.”
Though Matti now travels the world and no longer lives in Milford, he still comes back to visit often.
“I think I’ve been back six or seven times in the two and a half years years that I’ve been gone,” he said.
