LaBerta Marie Patch LaTurner
LaBerta Marie Patch LaTurner, 97, Miller’s Merry Manor, Culver, formerly of Argos, passed away at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, in Culver.
She was born April 10, 1918, in Sand Creek, Mt., the daughter of Lee Hall and Olive (Simons) Thornburg. She attended Lone Pine School in that area and graduated from Wolf Point High School in 1936. She then graduated from Kennedy Deaconess Hospital in Havre, Mt., and worked there as a registered nurse.
LaBerta married Stanley Lynd Patch Dec. 24, 1940, in Sand Creek, Mt. They later moved to Culbertson, Mt., where their children attended school. LaBerta worked at the new 12-bed hospital in Culbertson.
In 1957, the family moved to Nyona Lake, where she worked for Woodlawn Hospital, Rochester, for 26 years before retiring in April, 1983. Her husband, Stanley Patch, preceded her in death June 8, 1966. On Nov. 9, 1979, she married Francis Eugene LaTurner, Argos, where she then made her home.
Francis preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1996.
LaBerta was a member of Parkside Community Church (Argos Bible Church), Argos, and enjoyed painting, writing poetry, quilting, reading, making rice bags and pillows.
Survivors include her children: Janie (Jim) Mechling, Argos, Diana Patch, Holland, Mich., and Keith (Jane) Patch, Osteen, Fla.; stepchildren: Robert (Mary) LaTurner, Normal, Ill., and Karen Alison, Kokomo; son-in-law, John Fry, Rochester; grandchildren: Glenda (Bill) Mechling-Smith, Argos, Michael (Delane) Mechling, Lafayette, Colo., Jeff Patch, California, Brian Patch (companion Melissa), California, Lori Fry (Companion Rodney Young), Rochester, Lisa Fry, Richman Hills, Ga., Brady Patch, Holland, Mich.; great-grandchildren: Kelton Fry, Courtney Fry, Kiah Fry, Krista Fry, all of Rochester, James Mechling Smith, Argos, Tristan Patch, Holland, Mich., and Brianna Mechling and Alexa Mechling, Lafayette, Colo.; great-great grandchildren: Iro Fry and Raylee Fry, both of Rochester; and seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, daughter, Marilyn Fry in 2014 and eight brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, at Parkside Community Church, Argos. Friends may call from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.
