Vivian C. ‘Corrine’ Bontrager
SYRACUSE — Vivian C. “Corrine” Bontrager, 87, Syracuse, died at noon Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, at Lakeland Rehab and Healthcare in Milford. She was born on June 12, 1928, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Albert and Martha (Hanson) Clifton.
She graduated in 1945 from Goshen High School and on July 10, 1946, in Valparaiso. She married Frederick M. “Fred” Bontrager Jr. She moved to Syracuse in 1973 from Goshen where she had lived most of her life except for a brief time in Albuquerque, N.M. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at Switches in Elkhart.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 223 in Syracuse, VFW Auxiliary in Syracuse, Moose Lodge in Goshen and formerly attended the Baptist Church in Goshen.
She is survived by her husband: Fred Bontrager of Warsaw; three sons: Craig Bontrager of Syracuse; Doug Bontrager of Syracuse; Bruce (Dee) Bontrager of Millersburg; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents; and step brother: Alan Clifton.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at Elkhart Prairie Street Cemetery, CR 38, Goshen, with Pastor Brad Cox of the Wawasee Lakeside Chapel officiating.
